MY STORY

Hi there!

I’m Mickeda Frankie,  the proud owner and resident artist of Moth & Moon Body Art Studio. With 19 years of experience in the tattoo and piercing industry, I specialize in creating art that enhances your unique beauty through tattoos and piercings that are as meaningful as they are striking. From fine-line and illustrative designs to abstract and ornamental styles, I pour my passion and expertise into every piece.

My academic and professional journey has been as diverse as my art. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Studio Art, alongside a background in math and science, which has shaped my precise approach to tattooing and piercing. I’m also deeply committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, quality, and cleanliness, guided by ongoing education with accredited organizations like the Association of Professional Piercers (APP).

You can trust
that every service at
Moth & Moon
is delivered with
exceptional care and
sterile practices.

Outside of the studio, I’m passionate about giving back to my community and nurturing creativity in others. I teach art / paint classes, mentor aspiring tattoo and piercing artists, and capture moments as a photographer for my local GAA Hurling Club. These hobbies fuel my creativity and connect me to the people and stories that inspire my work.

Apprenticeship

I’m incredibly happy and proud to have had many apprenticeships because I know how challenging it is to find the right balance—first, in deciding that piercing is truly the career you want, and second, in mastering the many skills, hand techniques, and precise movements required for the craft. Beyond just the technical aspect, there’s also the science behind it all, from anatomy to sterilization and wound healing. I love teaching it like a structured class, incorporating the history of piercing and the significance of each individual piercing. It’s been an honor to mentor Carisse, who has dedicated two years studying under me and has also attended two Association of Professional Piercers conferences alongside me, deepening her knowledge and commitment to the industry. Her love and dedication to the craft have kept learning fun, and in the process, we’ve become close friends. Fun fact: I’ve pierced and curated most of Carisse’s piercings, making her a walking canvas of our shared journey in this industry!

About Carisse

I’ve been such a fan of piercings from a young age. I grew up as a Jehovah’s Witness and although most body art was taboo, I was still drawn to piercings. I firmly believe in bodily autonomy and each person being able to choose how they adorn their bodies. To me piercings represent that right to choose for yourself and ultimate freedom. I’d be happy to celebrate your freedom to choose as your piercer.
